2017 has been indeed a learning curve for Bosses ‘N’ Mums and definitely, there are lessons that have been learnt. Bosses ‘N’ Mum teach the importance of evaluation and would like to share with you our lessons of 2017.
Lesson no 1. FOCUS and CONSISTENCY
Most of our lessons are not new to us but are things that have really stuck out for both us and our clients. Focus and consistency can really make or break your business. In order to be successful, you need to be focused on your business and not watch what other people are doing as this can sometimes divert you from seeing your achievements and accomplishments. While it’s good to check out your competitors every business is on its own journey and you must remain focused until you have reached the point when you are actually able to race against your competitors. Take Apple and Samsung they are literally racing and competing against each other even though they do the same thing at the end of the day. Consistency is vital. Success does not happen overnight and people need to see that you are really about your business before they can spend their hard earn cash on your business. No one wants to feel like they are loosing out so be sure to remain consistent with your message and business.
Lesson no 2. You must try and fail
If you don’t try how do you know it doesn’t work? Being in business is full of uncertainties but that’s the fun of it I guess. On the other hand, how as mothers can we take that risk? There is some research that suggests that more people fail in business than succeed and those who are successful have (the majority of the time) failed in their past but reveal that persistence keeps them going. However, don’t let that stop you! At Bosses ‘N’ Mums failure means to learn. Learn from what didn’t go so well and make changes. Have you ever heard the saying insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting the same results? Well, that’s failure to us. If something didn’t go so well, reflect, evaluate, learn and change it!

Lesson no 3. You can’t’ do it alone
Yes, we are super mums but even Superman needed help at times. That’s the same with us. You are not going to be the best at doing everything (unless you’re God, himself). Focus on what it is you are good at and the delegate or hire someone to do it. I always think of this as an opportunity to support other mums in business, especially start-ups. It’s an opportunity to put our words into action and empower other women, mums or general start-ups. Not saying you must but when things start to become overwhelming and quality is being compromised then start to think about what you need to do to ensure quality and your health is not compromised.

Lesson no 4. You must find your niche and remember your business won’t be the same as when you started
Compared to when Bosses ‘N’ Mums started I noticed that it’s not the same. Things changed because we were able to recognise our clients wants and needs. Regardless, as a start-up, you must have a niche to be recognised. Later you can add other aspects of your business. Moreover, make sure you focus on what one thing, one thing that your client or customer can remember you by. Take Christian Louboutin everyone knows the designer for his red bottom shoes, but the designer also offers luxury handbags but when we think of him we think of shoes. So, it’s a bit like that! What do you want people to remember your business for?
Lesson no 5. Strategy/systems in business is vital as a mum boss
Being a mum and starting a business will make you indeed very busy. You must have a system in place to help you organise yourself and your family and a strategy for your business will help you to be consistent and to meet your business goals as long as it’s the right strategy for your business, your business will grow.
Now that we have learnt these lessons what do we do with it? Take in on board and implement these practices.
Vision boards for your business
Following on from our lessons. You need to make sure that you are clear about your business and make sure you set goals. You can start this by creating a vision board for your business (ONLY). Where do you want your business to be? Vision boards are a great way to clarify your goals.
If you are struggling with your vision board, you might as well register for the Bosses ‘N’ Mums Vision Board workshop to get more in your 2018 and off to a great start.
Peace and Success
